Trump Highlights Tax Relief, Investment, Healthcare, and Farm Support in Mississippi

President Donald Trump is visiting Mississippi to promote his administration’s economic and development agenda, highlighting tax relief, private investment, rural healthcare funding, agricultural assistance, infrastructure upgrades, and defense-industry contracts.

Tax relief and agriculture: The White House says approximately 500,000 Mississippi seniors benefit from a new tax deduction, while taxpayers received average refunds of $4,018 in 2026. Mississippi farmers have also received more than $469 million in farm safety-net and conservation payments, alongside additional assistance for trade disruptions, rising input costs, and specialty crops.

Rural healthcare and private investment: Mississippi secured $206 million in first-year federal rural healthcare funding and more than $104 million in grants for healthcare improvements. Businesses have announced investments across the state, including Amazon’s planned data-center expansion, xAI’s proposed $20 billion data center in Southaven, and manufacturing projects by Siemens Energy, Southwire, Raytheon, and other companies.

Infrastructure and disaster recovery: Federal funding includes a $44 million grant to expand the I-55/I-69 corridor in DeSoto County, $51.1 million for transportation projects, and up to $35.5 million to modernize Mississippi Export Railroad infrastructure. Federal disaster assistance is also supporting communities affected by storms.

Defense and shipbuilding: The Navy awarded Ingalls Shipbuilding a $99 million contract related to sea trials for the USS Lyndon B. Johnson and a separate $283 million contract to begin work on new frigates. Mississippi also secured $528 million in defense-related funding, including upgrades to military facilities.

The administration presents these initiatives as evidence of its efforts to strengthen Mississippi’s economy, support rural communities and farmers, and expand domestic manufacturing and military capabilities.
