Trump Revises Tariffs on Certain Canadian Products
President Donald Trump has signed a proclamation further modifying tariffs on certain Canadian products, effective October 30, 2026. The White House says the changes aim to counter Canada’s retaliatory tariffs and address what the administration describes as discriminatory treatment of U.S. exports.
The revised measures remove certain products, including plywood, paper goods, machinery, refrigeration equipment, and packing materials, from the tariff list while adding products such as certain valves, carpets, and waste materials. The tariffs apply to covered goods regardless of their status under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and are in addition to existing Section 232 tariffs.
The administration says the action is intended to protect American farmers, manufacturers, and workers while encouraging companies to bring production back to the United States. The announcement also highlights recent manufacturing investments and expanding industrial activity as evidence of its broader trade and economic strategy.
