Melania Trump Announces Localized Ceasefire in Ukraine’s Oleshky
First Lady Melania Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a localized ceasefire in Oleshky, southern Ukraine, beginning October 29, 2026. The temporary halt in military action is intended to allow humanitarian aid deliveries and facilitate the safe evacuation of civilians.
According to the First Lady’s statement, the city’s remaining 1,700–2,000 residents are primarily elderly people who urgently need food, clean water, medicine, and medical care. Civilian representatives from both countries will assess residents’ needs and coordinate transportation for those wishing to evacuate to either Russia or Ukraine.
Melania Trump said she and her representative worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leaders to establish the agreement, building on communication channels developed during earlier efforts to reunite children with their families. An impartial American media organization is also expected to document the process to help ensure families’ wishes are respected.
Oleshky, which had a prewar population of approximately 24,000, has remained near the front line since the war began. The statement also notes that flooding following the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam affected roughly 90% of the city’s territory.
