In which Kid 2 joins me in reviewing THE SHEEP DETECTIVES (2026), director Kyle Balda's mystery comedy, from a script by Craig Mazin and based on Leonie Swann's novel, "Three Bags Full".
A lonely shepherd named George (Hugh Jackman) spends his evenings reading murder mysteries to his flock, unaware that his woolly companions have become highly intelligent students of the genre. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep - led by an observant ewe named Lily (voiced by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) - take it upon themselves to investigate the crime and uncover the truth behind their master's passing. As they venture out of their quiet meadow and into the complex human world, the unlikely detectives must decipher clues, navigate human social circles, and confront deep-seated prejudices to bring the true killer to justice. The film clocks in at 1 h 49 m, is rated PG and while we caught it in theaters, it is currently streaming on Prime Video, as an Amazon MGM Studios production in collaboration with Lord Miller and Three Strange Angels.
