In which the Mister joins me in reviewing BEGINNERS (2010), a romantic drama from writer/director, Mike Mills.
A graphic artist named Oliver (Ewan McGregor) struggles to process his complex emotions following the death of his mother and the subsequent, life-altering confession from his elderly father, Hal (Christopher Plummer), that he is gay. As Oliver navigates his grief and learns to embrace his father's newfound zest for life and pursuit of an authentic identity, he begins to see his own past and future through a fresh, more vulnerable lens. While attempting to heal, Oliver meets a captivating but guarded French actress named Anna (Mélanie Laurent), forcing him to decide if he is finally ready to confront his fear of commitment and pursue a meaningful connection of his own.
