Friday Family Film Night: SHAOLIN SOCCER review

In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing SHAOLIN SOCCER (2001), from a screenplay by Stephen Chow, Kan-Cheung Tsang, Min-Hun Fung and Chih-Chiang Fung.  The film is directed by Stephen Chow.    A former Shaolin monk struggling to make ends meet in modern-day society reunites his estranged, martial-arts-trained brothers to form an unorthodox soccer team.  By combining their mystical, superhuman fighting techniques with the mechanics of professional football, they hope to promote the benefits of Shaolin kung fu while rising through the ranks of the competitive national tournament.  As their team gains popularity, they must face off against a brutal, cheating rival squad that uses advanced technology and dark tactics to maintain their dominance over the sport.  The film clocks in at 1 h 27 m, is rated PG-13 and is currently streaming on Pluto TV and Tubi but is also available to buy/rent on Prime Video.  Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.
