Can you trust the New Testament?
In this Biblical sermon on Hebrews 1:1–2, John Musgrave explains why Christians can have confidence in the Christian faith: God Himself has spoken through His Son, Jesus Christ, and through the prophets and apostles by the Holy Spirit.
The New Testament is not merely a collection of human ideas about God; it bears witness to God's revelation in Jesus Christ.
Why does it matter that God has spoken? Because our response to Jesus has eternal consequences.
In Hebrews 1:1–2, we learn that God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets and has now spoken to us through His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things. This sermon explores two essential truths:
Why you can have confidence in the New Testament. Discover how Jesus spoke through the Old Testament prophets, how He revealed the Father during His earthly ministry, and how He guided His apostles through the Holy Spirit. Consider the significance of Scripture's divine origin and the apostles' willingness to endure persecution for their testimony to Christ.
How faith in Jesus gives you an eternal inheritance. Jesus Christ is the heir of all things. Those who belong to Him through faith become heirs with Christ, receiving the promised inheritance of salvation and eternal life rather than condemnation.
The sermon also considers the relationship between God's revelation, the authority of Scripture, the reliability of the apostolic testimony, and the eternal consequences of believing in Jesus Christ.
Key Scripture passages: Hebrews 1:1–2; Exodus 3:14; Colossians 2:8; 1 Peter 1:10–12; John 1:1–18; John 14:25–26; John 15:26–27; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20–21; Romans 8:1, 17; Hebrews 9:15, 27.
Who should watch? This message is for Christians seeking to grow in confidence in Jesus Christ, students of Scripture, and those interested in expository preaching, Biblical interpretation, the authority of God's Word, and the teachings of historic Reformed Christianity.
Whether you are studying Hebrews, exploring the foundations of the Christian faith, or seeking assurance in Christ and the hope of eternal life, this message points you to Jesus, God's Son and the heir of all things.
