Would life be easier if you abandoned your Christian faith? Yes—but would it be worth the cost?

In this Biblical sermon segment from Hebrews 1:1–2, John Musgrave examines why the world rejects God’s truth, why Christians experience persecution, and why opposition to Christianity should not shake our confidence in Jesus Christ.

Why does the world reject God, and what should Christians do when their faith is ridiculed or opposed?

Romans 1 teaches that God has revealed Himself through what He has made, yet fallen humanity suppresses the truth. Psalm 19 declares that the heavens proclaim God’s glory, while Romans 2 explains how God’s law is written on the human heart. The problem is not simply that people lack knowledge of God, but that they reject the truth He has revealed.

What does this mean for Christians living in a world that increasingly ignores or rejects Biblical Christianity?

Jesus warned His followers that they would be insulted and persecuted because of Him (Matthew 5:10–12). Paul teaches that those who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will face persecution (2 Timothy 3:12). Peter likewise describes the hostility Christians may experience from former friends who no longer understand their commitment to Christ (1 Peter 4:4). Even sharing in Christ’s sufferings is part of what it means to belong to Him (Romans 8:17).

In this episode, discover why an easier life is not the ultimate measure of truth, why Christian persecution should not surprise us, and why believers must not abandon their faith simply because the world rejects God.

Biblical passages discussed:
• Hebrews 1:1–2
• Romans 1:18–28
• Romans 2:14–15
• Psalm 19
• Matthew 5:10–12
• 2 Timothy 3:12
• 1 Peter 4:4
• Romans 8:17

This teaching is for Christians seeking to understand Scripture more deeply, stand firm under pressure, and follow Jesus faithfully in a hostile world. It will be particularly relevant to Presbyterian and Reformed Christians, including those in the PCA, OPC, URC, RPCNA, and other Biblically conservative churches, as well as anyone seeking a better understanding of the Bible.

This episode is one of five weekday segments drawn from a complete Sunday sermon on Hebrews 1:1–2.
