What is the “Lamb’s Book of Life,” and what does it have to do with Amos 9:11–15?
In this passage, God promises that the nations—including unlikely people who once stood opposed to His people—will become part of the kingdom of His Son.
Amos 9:11–15 points beyond the restoration of David’s fallen tent to God’s great plan to gather people from all the nations into the kingdom of Jesus Christ. The promise that the nations would become God’s possession finds its fulfillment in Christ, the Son of David and King of the nations.
This passage also helps us understand the Biblical teaching about the Book of Life and the Lamb’s Book of Life. Scripture presents God as choosing His people before the foundation of the world, Christ as purchasing His people with His blood, and God’s redeemed people as those whose names are written in the Book of Life.
Revelation 20:15 says that anyone whose name was not found written in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire. That makes this more than an abstract theological question: Is your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life?
In this teaching from Amos 9:11–15, we consider:
• Why God promised that the nations would become the possession of His Son
• What “possessing Edom” means in Amos 9:12
• Why God’s salvation reaches unexpected people from every nation
• The connection between Amos 9 and the Book of Life in Revelation
• God’s choosing His people before the creation of the world
• Jesus Christ as the Son of David who gathers the nations into His kingdom
• Why Christ’s death on the cross is essential to the salvation of God’s people
• What the Lamb’s Book of Life means for final judgment and eternal salvation
