Jesus is defeating Satan by saving His people.
In Amos 9:11–15, we see God's promise to gather His people from the nations—and in the New Testament, we see how Jesus accomplishes that work by overcoming Satan's deceptive influence, giving spiritual sight to the spiritually blind, and bringing His people from the kingdom of darkness into His own kingdom.
Jesus says in Matthew 12:29 that before someone can plunder a strong man's house, the strong man must first be bound. Revelation 20 describes Satan as being bound from deceiving the nations, while the Great Commission in Matthew 28 sends Christ's disciples to make disciples of all nations. These passages help us understand what Jesus is doing in the present age: He is rescuing people from Satan's kingdom and bringing them into the kingdom of God.
This message examines Amos 9:11–15 alongside Matthew 12:29, Matthew 28:18–20, Revelation 20:1–3, Colossians 1:13–14, John 3:3, John 6:37–44, and John 9:39.
If you have trusted in Christ, Jesus has rescued you from the dominion of darkness. He has opened your spiritually blind eyes, given you His Spirit, and brought you into His kingdom. Satan cannot prevent Christ from saving those whom the Father has given to Him.
This is the triumph of Christ during the present age—not that Jesus has made the world comfortable, fair, or free from suffering, but that He is actively saving people from every nation and transferring them from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His beloved Son.
