Trump Proclaims October 2026 as National Seafood Month
President Donald Trump proclaimed October 2026 as National Seafood Month, recognizing American fishermen, seafood producers, and fishing communities for their contributions to the nation’s food supply and economy.
The proclamation states that the U.S. seafood industry produces nearly 8.5 billion pounds of food annually, supports more than one million jobs, and generates over $173 billion in economic activity. It emphasizes the role of fisheries in food security, maritime employment, and local economies.
The administration highlights efforts to expand commercial fishing access, increase fishing quotas for Atlantic bluefin tuna and mackerel, revive the West Coast salmon season, and provide $123.6 million in fishery disaster assistance. It also points to the creation of a Department of Agriculture Office of Seafood and plans to reduce regulatory burdens on the industry.
Trump called on Americans to recognize the contributions of seafood workers and participate in events and ceremonies honoring the industry throughout October.
