Barry Morphew said he left Suzanne sleeping in their Chaffee County home and drove to a construction job before dawn on Mother’s Day 2020. By that evening, Suzanne’s daughters couldn’t reach her. Her bicycle was found thrown down a slope near the property. Her phone had gone dark at 4:23 a.m. Between 3:25 and 3:51 a.m., sensors in Barry’s truck recorded multiple events while he told investigators he was asleep. His phone powered off and back on through the night. At 6:10 a.m., he texted Suzanne: “Happy Mother’s Day. I love you.” He spent less than thirty minutes at the Broomfield work site across a nearly ten-hour trip. He made five stops. The prosecution charged murder, assembled a digital case — and then destroyed it through its own disclosure failures. Expert after expert was excluded. DA Linda Stanley was later disbarred. The case was dismissed nine days before trial.
