Barry Morphew’s wife sent her last text at 2:11 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2020. Barry was home by 2:43. The next time anyone would try to reach Suzanne Morphew, she wouldn’t answer. The couple had moved from Indiana to Chaffee County, Colorado, in 2018 — a cancer survivor, a construction worker, two daughters. The community saw a family rebuilding in the mountains. What Suzanne was telling her sister Melinda, her friend Sheila Oliver, and a man named Jeff Libler was a different story. She’d hidden a recording pen in their home to catch Barry. The device recorded her own calls with Libler instead. On May 6, she told Barry she wanted a divorce. On May 8, she messaged Melinda about physical abuse. By May 9, the daughters were away and the house was empty. Everything Suzanne had been quietly building toward ended somewhere between that Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
