After handing his personal phone to State Police, Matthew Farwell turned to his department-issued device. Eight days after Sandra Birchmore's death, he searched it for whether consent can be revoked in Massachusetts and whether forensic tools can pull deleted iMessages. The FBI's forensics examiner walked the jury through February 1st: Sandra's phone logged six steps at 9:10 PM, went dark at 9:13, recorded eight final steps at 9:40, and never registered movement again. Farwell appeared on camera in her building. Sandra had been planning ahead — a baby names list saved two days earlier ended with the name Matthew. On cross-examination, the defense highlighted a ribbon-related search at 7:50 PM and a text from months before. A friend had called police twelve days before Sandra died. That recording was not kept. Farwell has pleaded not guilty.
