When you say I'm fine, is it armour or is it honest? Both, depending on the day. And sometimes fine is genuinely the right answer, because not every conversation is one you want.

Every carer, every encounter, however small. I take notice about one time in twenty. There is nothing wrong with the armour. My nan had a way of dealing with people who came in moaning. And there is the master whose final teaching came years later, once the student was ready to hear it. Try a different answer once and see what room it opens up.

One thing to try: Answer once today with actually, today is a hard one. See what happens next.
