You used to be the fun one.
Now you sit in the car in the driveway for twenty minutes before you go inside. Dinner’s cereal. Your partner’s hand on your knee feels like too much. And last night they said it: “You’ve changed.”
So you go looking for answers, and here’s what you get:
“Just take a vacation.”
“You need more self-care.”
“Add a morning routine. Try journaling. Go to a meditation class.”
“Maybe you’ve just fallen out of love.”
This episode is for you if you’ve got nothing left for anyone, including yourself, and you’re quietly scared it means something’s wrong with your relationship. Or with you.
That advice isn’t wrong. Rest and self-care are research-backed, for neurotypical brains and everyday stress. But neurodivergent burnout goes deeper, lasts longer, and a vacation doesn’t touch it. Adding more to your plate when you’re already empty just makes it heavier.
Today, I’m going to show you what autistic and ADHD burnout actually look like, why they hit women so hard, and why they get misread as falling out of love. And I’m not just telling you what doesn’t work, I’m sharing five steps to get through it together, so your partner becomes your biggest ally instead of the person you’re hiding from.
