负荆请罪 - 儿童成语故事

《负荆请罪》出自西汉司马迁的《史记·廉颇蔺相如列传》，讲的是战国时候赵国大将廉颇向上卿蔺相如真诚认错的故事，距今已经有两千两百多年。（这是《完璧归赵》的姊妹篇哦。）

蔺相如立了大功，官位排到了大将军廉颇前面。廉颇很不服气，扬言要当面给他难堪。蔺相如却处处躲着他，连马车都掉头让路。大家都以为蔺相如怕了——可当廉颇听说了真正的原因，他做了一件谁也没想到的事：背着一捆带刺的荆条，走到了蔺相如的家门口。你猜，他要做什么？

"Bearing Thorns to Ask for Punishment" (负荆请罪, fù jīng qǐng zuì) comes from Sima Qian's *Records of the Grand Historian: Biographies of Lian Po and Lin Xiangru* (《史记·廉颇蔺相如列传》), written in the Western Han, set in the Warring States state of Zhao. Over 2,200 years old. (It's a companion piece to "Returning the Jade Intact to Zhao"!)

Lin Xiangru's great deeds earned him a rank above the mighty general Lian Po — and Lian Po was furious, vowing to embarrass him to his face. But Lin Xiangru kept avoiding him, even turning his carriage aside on the road. Everyone thought he was simply afraid — until Lian Po learned the real reason, and did something no one expected: he walked all the way to Lin Xiangru's door carrying a bundle of thorns. Can you guess why?
