"Kong Rong Gives Up the Pears" (孔融让梨, kǒng róng ràng lí) comes from the *Book of the Later Han: Biography of Kong Rong* (《后汉书·孔融传》) — preserved in the *Kong Family Records* (《融家传》) cited by the Tang scholar Li Xian — the story of a clever four-year-old in the Eastern Han, over 1,800 years old.
