Agatha Christie’s Tommy & Tuppence are back, but this time they’ve been dropped into modern-day London.
In this First Impressions episode, I’m talking about the first two episodes of the new 2026 BritBox adaptation starring Antonia Thomas as Tuppence Cowley, Josh Dylan as Tommy Beresford, and Imelda Staunton as Aunt Ada.
I went into this one after reading most of Agatha Christie’s The Secret Adversary and watching the 1983 adaptation, so I had some expectations about who Tommy and Tuppence are supposed to be, especially their very different personalities and the chemistry that makes their partnership work.
We’re talking about what this contemporary adaptation changes, what I think of Antonia Thomas and Josh Dylan as our new Tommy and Tuppence, their chemistry, the gorgeous visuals, Aunt Ada, DI Merriot, that Alice in Wonderland-themed mystery, and whether modernizing these characters actually works.
And of course, we have to answer the most important Cozy Comfort Club question:
But is it cozy?
In This Episode:
* My expectations after reading The Secret Adversary
* Tommy & Tuppence in a contemporary setting
* Antonia Thomas and Josh Dylan as our new leads
* Their friendship, banter, and romantic chemistry
* Smartphones, social media, influencers, and modernizing Agatha Christie
* The Alice in Wonderland-themed first mystery
* Imelda Staunton as Aunt Ada
* The supporting characters I already want more of
* My first Cozy Comfort Club ratings
* Plus, a special Cozy Comfort Club announcement!
First Impressions CCC Card
Overall: 4.25/5Cozy: 4.25/5First Impressions Verdict: TRY IT
I’m leaving off the Binge Rating for now because I’ve only seen the first two episodes. We’ll see if Tommy & Tuppence can turn that Try It into a Binge It by the end of the season.
Spoiler Note
This episode contains spoilers for the characters, relationships, setup, and events in Episodes 1–2, but I do not reveal the solution to the mystery, the killer, or the major mystery reveals.
