I left the city of Sapa with my local guide, Khu, for a two-day trek deep into the countryside of northern Vietnam. We planned our route through the mountains before hitting the muddy trails—and it didn’t take long before I completely wiped out.
Along the way, we stopped at small villages, tried fresh Vietnamese sugarcane, talked about dating life in Vietnam, and enjoyed a huge lunch made with local ingredients. I also got to see how traditional indigo dyeing is done before crossing a massive bridge high above the river.
This was only the beginning of my trek through Sapa, Vietnam, and one of my favorite ways to experience the rice terraces and local village life beyond the city.
