"I'd be homeschooling an 8-year-old." Sandra Birchmore texted that to Matthew Farwell — calculating what would have happened if they hadn't used protection on April 10, 2013. She was fifteen. He was a Stoughton police officer.

On Day 6 of Farwell's federal murder trial, FBI agents read those messages aloud. Her medical records confirmed birth control requests starting in spring 2013. Her school absences climbed the same month. Farwell wrote he was "addicted." He told her he'd have started earlier — when she was fourteen.

Birchmore's phone recorded its last activity at 9:13 PM on February 1, 2021. Eight days later, Farwell's department-issued work phone — not the personal phone he'd already surrendered to state police — ran two Google searches about whether consent can be revoked and whether deleted messages can be recovered.

The defense argued Birchmore took her own life.
