Arizona State and Local Government Without the Overwhelm

If someone is already serving in office and asking for your vote again, there is something a first time candidate does not have yet: a public record. But where do you find it? And once you do, what are you actually looking at?In this episode of Kate48, I sit down with Arizona State Representative Stacey Travers to learn how regular Arizona voters can research someone who is already serving in the Legislature. We talk about where to find a legislator’s record, how to look up bills they have sponsored, what prime sponsor versus cosponsor actually means, what committee assignments can tell you, and how to find voting records. But we also get into something I found especially interesting: a single vote does not always tell the whole story. Stacey explains why the actual language of a bill and unintended consequences can matter when you are trying to understand why someone voted yes or no.We also talk about campaign promises versus actually governing, what questions voters should ask someone seeking reelection, how to research an incumbent when you only have a few minutes, and why asking “How are you actually going to do that?” can be one of the most useful questions we ask a candidate. This is not an endorsement of Stacey or any political party.Kate48 is about making it normal again to ask questions, seek information, understand how our government works, and make our own informed decisions. If politics has ever made you feel like everyone else somehow knows something you don’t, this conversation is a good place to start.Connect with Stacey: https://www.traversforaz.com/Connect with Katie: https://www.evoaz.com/katie-halle-lambert/This is a pre-recorded video.
