Why does a single birthday so often turn into a birthday weekend, a birthday week or even a birthday month?
For many people, it is not really about celebrating. When you spend normal life stuck in rigid food rules, a birthday can become a free pass to finally stop restricting and eat the things you have been telling yourself you are not allowed.
In this episode, recorded just after my 41st birthday, I explain why special occasions can become an escape from dieting and why the real solution is not to stop celebrating. It is to build a way of eating you do not constantly need a break from.
In this episode, I cover:
Why birthday weeks are often a symptom of chronic dieting.
How self-imposed food rules can make celebrations feel like a free pass.
Why restriction and rebound behaviour keep reinforcing each other.
The difference between enjoying a birthday and using it to escape your normal life.
How to create a relationship with food where one celebration does not turn into a spiral.
If this episode helped you see your relationship with food differently, I would really appreciate a rating and a short review. It helps me reach more people who are trapped in the yo-yo dieting cycle.
