The Reel Spooky Series continues with Love Lies Bleeding, Rose Glass's electric follow-up to her acclaimed horror debut Saint Maud. Kristen Stewart stars as Lou, a reclusive gym manager who falls hard for Jackie (Katy O'Brian), an ambitious bodybuilder passing through town on her way to Vegas — but their intense, immediate connection sends them both spiraling straight into the violent web of Lou's criminal father (Ed Harris). Billed as a romantic thriller, this one earns a spot in Reel Spooky Season for a reason: body horror, grotesque transformation imagery, and a surreal, fever-dream back half that trades romance for something genuinely unsettling and potentially brilliant.
Joshua breaks down how Glass carries her horror instincts from Saint Maud straight into this film's DNA, digs into Stewart and O'Brian's electric chemistry, and debates whether the film's wild tonal swings and bonkers ending pays off.
