Joshua Hunter continues the Reel Spooky Series with Blade, the 1998 action-horror classic starring Wesley Snipes as the half-vampire, half-human "Daywalker" who's spent his life hunting the undead after his mother was attacked while pregnant with him. Alongside his mentor Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), Blade goes to war against Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), a rogue vampire plotting to unleash an ancient blood god and wipe out humanity for good.
Joshua breaks down why this one is widely credited with laying the groundwork for the modern superhero movie boom years before the MCU existed, digs into Snipes' iconic, leather-clad performance, and discusses whether this genre-blending mix of vampire mythology, martial arts, and gothic style holds up as the blueprint it's often called.
