Joshua Hunter continues the Reel Spooky Series with Challengers, Luca Guadagnino's tennis drama starring Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist — and arguably one of the most genuinely horrifying depictions of a relationship put to screen this decade. Underneath the sweat and the slow-motion volleys is a years-long psychological chokehold, three people locked in a love triangle built on manipulation, obsession, and emotional warfare disguised as romance.
No haunted houses, no masked killers — just three people trapped in a decade-long game where nobody ever really wins. It turns out the scariest monster this Halloween season might just be a situationship that refuses to die. 🎃🎾
Joshua breaks down why watching these characters circle each other is more unsettling than most actual horror movies, digs into the film's tension-soaked editing and brilliant score, and makes the case for why Challengers absolutely belongs in Reel Spooky Season; and why it deserves more...........love.......you get it? 😂
