Who was Ishtar—and why does this ancient figure still matter today?
Rebecca Greenwood continues her exploration of the Queen of Heaven by taking a deeper look at Ishtar, one of the most prominent goddesses of ancient Mesopotamia. Rebecca examines Ishtar’s connection to Inanna, Babylon and other ancient cultures, the worship and practices associated with her, and the biblical context surrounding figures such as Tammuz.
Rebecca also explains what she calls “root bondage” and “prevailing bondage”—a framework she uses when researching how ancient spiritual influences may reappear across generations, cultures, and regions.
Later, she shares stories from prayer assignments in Germany and discusses the Ishtar Gate and Berlin’s Pergamon Museum, along with the connections she draws between ancient Ishtar worship and modern culture.
If you listened to “Who Is the Queen of Heaven?”, this episode takes the conversation deeper into the history, spiritual significance, and modern implications Rebecca associates with Ishtar.
