Why does suffering occur, and what does it mean to suffer with Christ? In Part II of “Suffering into Glory,” we continue our line-by-line teaching through Romans and examine four additional reasons suffering occurs: satanic oppression and affliction, persecution because of active faith in Jesus, the revealing of God’s glory and our dependence upon His grace, and the testing of our faith that brings spiritual maturity. We also consider the difference between having faith and becoming spiritually mature, the importance of caring for those who are weak, and why obedience is foundational to suffering with Christ. The pain is real, and the tears are real… But suffering is not for nothing. Christ is the goal, His grace sustains us, and glory awaits. “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” — Romans 8:18.
