What does it mean to receive the Spirit of adoption, and how does being led by the Holy Spirit identify us as sons of God? In this teaching from Romans 8:12–15, we continue examining the believer's spiritual walk and the significance of our relationship with God through the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we are no longer debtors to the flesh, but that we are called to put to death the deeds of the body by the Spirit. We examine five biblical practices that help us cooperate with the Holy Spirit in this ongoing process: preemptively protecting our senses, fasting, absolute separation, mortifying fleshly deeds, and saturating our minds with the word of God. We also explore what it means to be led by the Spirit of God, the connection between spiritual maturity and sonship, and why the word of God must remain the foundation for spiritual discernment. Finally, we examine the significance of the Spirit of adoption and the intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father that enables us to cry out, "Abba, Father."
