Who would you like to meet?

If your answer is “anyone who needs what I do”, you might be making life unnecessarily difficult for your network.

In this episode of Networking Nuggets, Keith explores why being more specific about the people you help can make you much easier to understand, remember and refer.

Trying to appeal to everybody can leave people with very little to hold onto. Instead, Keith looks at how describing a particular person, problem or situation gives your network something they can recognise when the right conversation comes along.

Being specific doesn't mean turning everybody else away. It simply gives people somewhere to start.

There's also a simple challenge: take the introduction you normally use at networking events and ask whether it gives people something they can actually picture and remember.

This week's Networking Nugget:

Don't try to be relevant to everyone. Be specific enough for someone to remember when you're relevant.
