Welcome back to English Shadowing with Temmy! This episode is a little different β€” we're stepping away from idioms to focus on four everyday past tense verbs that show up in English conversation constantly. If you want to sound more natural when talking about the past, these are essential to master.

Let's break them down one by one.

1. Went

Meaning: The past tense of "go" β€” used to talk about moving to or visiting a place.

Example: I went to the doctor yesterday.

You'll use "went" constantly when talking about where you've been or what you did.

2. Made

Meaning: The past tense of "make" β€” used for creating, preparing, or producing something.

Example: She made a good impression.

From cooking dinner to making decisions, this verb covers a huge range of everyday situations.

3. Got

Meaning: The past tense of "get" β€” used for receiving, obtaining, or arriving at something.

Example: He got a promotion at work.

"Got" is one of the most versatile verbs in English, and native speakers use it in dozens of ways.

4. Knew

Meaning: The past tense of "know" β€” used to say you had information or awareness of something.

Example: I knew something was wrong.

Master this one and you'll sound much more natural talking about what you were aware of in the past.

Practice with Shadowing

The best way to make these verbs stick is through shadowing β€” listening to a native speaker and repeating right along with them, matching the rhythm and pronunciation as closely as possible. In today's episode, we practice 10 real-life sentences for each verb, from simple to more advanced.

🎧 Listen to the full episode, repeat out loud, and shadow every sentence.
πŸ” Do this daily, and you'll notice real improvement in your fluency and pronunciation.
