Welcome back to English Shadowing with Temmy! In this episode, we're diving into four English idioms that native speakers use all the time in everyday conversation. If you want to sound more natural and confident when you speak English, these are must-know expressions.

Let's break them down one by one.

1. Hit the Nail on the Head

Meaning: To describe exactly what is causing a situation or problem; to be completely correct about something.

Example: You hit the nail on the head with that comment.

Whether you're solving a problem or giving your opinion, this idiom is perfect for saying someone got it exactly right.

2. The Ball Is in Your Court

Meaning: It's your turn to make a decision or take action.

Example: I made my offer, the ball is in your court.

Use this one whenever responsibility shifts to someone else after you've done your part.

3. Cost an Arm and a Leg

Meaning: To be very expensive.

Example: That trip cost us an arm and a leg.

Next time something is way too pricey, skip "expensive" and try this colorful expression instead.

4. Spill the Beans

Meaning: To reveal a secret, often accidentally.

Example: Don't spill the beans about the surprise.

This idiom is great for talking about gossip, secrets, or surprises that got revealed too soon.

Practice with Shadowing

The best way to make these idioms stick is through shadowing โ€” listening to a native speaker and repeating right along with them, matching the rhythm and pronunciation as closely as possible. In today's episode, we practice 10 real-life sentences for each idiom, from simple to more advanced.

๐ŸŽง Listen to the full episode, repeat out loud, and shadow every sentence.
๐Ÿ” Do this daily, and you'll notice real improvement in your fluency and pronunciation.
