Welcome back to English Shadowing with Temmy! In this episode, we're diving into four English phrasal verbs that native speakers use all the time in everyday conversation. If you want to sound more natural and confident when you speak English, these are must-know expressions.
Let's break them down one by one.
1. Cut Down
Meaning: To reduce the amount or frequency of something.
Example: I need to cut down on sugar.
Whether it's sugar, spending, or screen time, "cut down" is the go-to phrase for talking about reducing habits.
2. Get By
Meaning: To manage or survive with limited resources.
Example: We get by on a tight budget.
This phrase is perfect for describing how you cope when things are tight or difficult.
3. Go Over
Meaning: To review or examine something carefully.
Example: Let's go over the plan again.
Use this one at work or school whenever you need to check or revisit details together.
4. Pick Up
Meaning: To collect or get something.
Example: I'll pick up some milk on the way home.
Next time you're running errands, this is the natural way to talk about grabbing things on the way.
Practice with Shadowing
The best way to make these phrasal verbs stick is through shadowing โ listening to a native speaker and repeating right along with them, matching the rhythm and pronunciation as closely as possible. In today's episode, we practice 10 real-life sentences for each phrasal verb, from simple to more advanced.
๐ง Listen to the full episode, repeat out loud, and shadow every sentence.
