Your nervous system isn't broken. It's not a wound that needs healing. And our obsession with “healing” it fits a little too perfectly into a wellness culture that constantly gives us something new about ourselves to fix.

But that doesn't mean nervous system regulation doesn't matter.

In this episode, we're getting nerdy about

  • what your nervous system is actually doing when you're triggered
  • why you can't always think your way out of dysregulation
  • and what becomes possible once you're regulated enough to actually listen to your body.

This episode is specifically created with folks who struggle with body image, disordered eating, or are in eating disorder recovery in mind—but the tools and concepts we're talking about can be useful for anyone who wants to better understand their nervous system and themselves.

We get into:

  • What “healing” your nervous system actually means + why regulation is about more than calming down

  • What happens in your brain when you're triggered + why positive affirmations don't always help

  • Bottom-up + top-down regulation tools, with specific applications for body image + disordered eating

  • Neuroplasticity, interoception + how your nervous system learns and adapts

  • Questions to help you investigate what's underneath a trigger + build a relationship with your body outside of crisis moments

Because the goal isn't to become permanently calm or never get triggered again. It's learning how to stay with yourself, get curious, and understand what your body is trying to communicate instead of constantly trying to fix it.
