The Six Shooter, “A Friend in Need,” originally broadcast January 3, 1954, is episode 16 of the NBC Western series starring James Stewart as drifter Britt Ponset. Written by series creator Frank Burt and directed by Jack Johnstone, the episode also features Frank Gerstle as Art Hemper.
In a narrow canyon, Britt encounters Art Hemper, a man wanted for murder who claims he is innocent and plans to surrender to Sheriff Vale at Squirrel Rock. As Britt agrees to listen, the approaching sheriff’s posse makes an already difficult situation more urgent.
