Recent research reveals that γδ T cells infiltrate small cell lung cancer (SCLC) tumors and lymph nodes, where they maintain functional cytotoxic profiles capable of mounting anti-tumor responses. Although conventional T cell pathways often fail in SCLC due to the downregulation of MHC-I, high levels of γδ T cells strongly predict improved clinical outcomes and prolonged overall survival when patients are treated with anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy. Furthermore, preclinical and patient-derived models demonstrate that these innate-like immune cells can be effectively redirected to destroy cancer cells through treatments like tarlatamab, while zoledronate successfully sensitizes tumors to γδ T cell-mediated killing via BTN2A1 recognition.
