1687-Serotonergic Projectome Architecture in Mouse Brain

Dela

The research investigates the complex architecture and behavioral roles of the mammalian serotonin system within the mouse brain. By employing whole-brain axon tracing, the authors discover that serotonergic projections are organized into five distinct projectomic groups based on functional relatedness rather than physical proximity. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that these groups are jointly defined by spatial transcriptomic profiles and specific cell body positions within the raphe nuclei. Utilizing projection-specific serotonin loss-of-function experiments, the researchers reveal that disrupting individual projectomic circuits produces distinct, dissociable behavioral phenotypes across multiple paradigms. Ultimately, these findings establish projectomic identity as a central framework for understanding the structural and functional organization of the brain's serotonergic network.
