The pattern is familiar: ICE agents firing into cars, from Renee Good in Minneapolis to recent shootings in Houston and Austin, where a food delivery driver was shot. Most major police departments bar officers from shooting into moving vehicles except in narrow circumstances. With firearms the leading cause of death for American children, what if that boy had been hit?
To Hawk, the surges in New York City and California weeks before the midterms are intentional: violence and protest as a pretext for a national emergency or the Insurrection Act.
But Trump's protection has limits. A president cannot pardon state charges, and Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty is investigating the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. There is no statute of limitations on murder. Democrats running now and in 2028 must commit to accountability, not moving on.
