Today, Attorney Benjamin Crump and Nolan Wells’ parents spoke at the NAACP headquarters in Chicago, where they shared the preliminary findings from the independent autopsy. One of the biggest revelations was that the Mississippi coroner’s office retained Nolan’s neck and throat structures for further examination. Because those tissues were unavailable to the second medical examiner, along with other limitations, the independent autopsy was unable to determine a cause of Nolan's passing and listed it as undetermined.

The preliminary report also noted a red discoloration on the back of Nolan’s head, along with several other findings that continue to raise questions. Investigators still have not determined Nolan’s exact time of passing, and the report explains that his body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making parts of the examination more difficult.

We’ll also discuss Officer Tatum’s interview with Warren Hudson, one of the young men who was on the boat with Nolan. The interview has now been released for those who want to watch it. While we’ll acknowledge that it’s available, we’ll also share why we’re approaching it cautiously and why we believe viewers should critically evaluate any new public statements as the investigation continues.

Finally, Nolan’s mother, Christine, has filed paperwork to open an estate for Nolan. Opening an estate is a legal step that can be necessary for several purposes, including managing a person who passed affairs and pursuing potential legal claims. Many observers believe it could also be an indication that the family is preparing for possible civil litigation related to Nolan’s passing.
