Since forming in the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1999, Gogol Bordello , led by Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz, has been filling venues with their unique brand of high octane energy lighting up stages around the world alongside the likes of System of a Down, Primus, Rancid & Dropkick Murphys.
Much of the band's sound is inspired by Romani and Ukrainian music mixed with punk and dub, incorporating accordion, violin & saxaphone. Eugene has dueted with Regina Spektor and the band have cut an album appeared in several popular films, most notably Everything Is Illuminated in which Eugene co-starred with Elijah Wood. The group appears playing a brass band in a set that included Star-Spangled Banner and the traditional Yiddish song Bublitschki and contributed the song Start Wearing Purple to the film score. Rick Rubin Produced their 2010 album Trans-Continental Hustle, which was released on his American Recordings label. Steve Albini Recorded their acclaimed 2005 album Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike. Frontman Eugene Hütz cited both collaborations as major moments in the band's career, with Gypsy Punks capturing their raw energy and Trans-Continental Hustle helping them refine their studio ..listen up
