Did you know that about 11.6% of kids had anxiety in 2012, up 20% from 2007? But during the pandemic, those numbers nearly doubled, such that 20.5% of youth worldwide now struggle with anxiety symptoms, as reported by the American Psychological Association. So if your child is in that number, they are not alone. I often get asked what causes my child’s anxiety? It could be a number of factors such as any unexpected change or instability, loss, serious illness, death of a loved one, violence, or abuse. Of course these are just a few situations that can lead some kids to become anxious. Sometimes it could simply be learned behavior. Growing up in a family where others are fearful or anxious also can "teach" a child to be afraid too. But interventions can help them overcome, especially in the form of stories. That’s why , I share my top 12 children’s books that help children manage worry and anxiety. (This is not an exhaustive list but a great resource to get you started.)
