Friends of the Rosary,
Today, November 2, following yesterday's All Saints' Day, is All Souls’ Day—the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, especially the souls undergoing purification in Purgatory.
The observance reflects our Christian belief in the ongoing spiritual connection between the living on Earth, the souls being cleansed in Purgatory, and the saints in Heaven.
We are invited to remember and pray for our relatives, friends, benefactors, and all known and unknown who are gone before us and are purging their sins in Purgatory as part of the Suffering Church, waiting to join the Communion of Saints in Heaven and reuniting in the joy of His eternal presence.
St. Catherine of Genoa described Purgatory as a profound purification through divine love. Souls being purified are drawn toward God with an intense desire for the perfect communion for which they were created.
Today, in the main reading (John 6:37–40), Christ the Lord assures us that those who believe in Him are called to the resurrection and eternal life:
“For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life,
and I shall raise him on the last day.”
Christ reveals that the Father’s will is our salvation. The Resurrection has opened the way to everlasting communion with God.
We are called to live in faith, charity, hope, and repentance, to avoid spiritual complacency, and prepare ourselves rightly for eternal life.
St. Gregory the Great emphasized the Church’s understanding of purification after death and the importance of intercessory prayer.
Ave Maria!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
Here I am, Lord; I come to do Your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
