Friends of the Rosary,
Today, October 31, is the Eve of All Saints, known as "All Hallows' Eve" or "Hallowe'en."
In England, saints or holy people were called "hallowed," hence the name "All Hallows' Day." The evening, or "e'en" before the feast became popularly known as "All Hallows' Eve" or even shorter, "Hallowe'en."In 1484,
Pope Sixtus IV established November 1, the feast of All Saints, as a holy day of obligation and also gave it a vigil.
Halloween is the preparation and combination of the two upcoming feasts, but is not a liturgical feast on the Catholic calendar.
And, of course, the demonic and witchcraft shows have no place in a Catholic celebration.
The three consecutive days of Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day illustrate the Communion of Saints. We therefore ask the Saints to intercede for us.
We, the faithful, the Church Militant—those on earth, striving to reach heaven—pray for the Church Suffering—souls in Purgatory—especially on All Souls' Day and throughout November. We rejoice and honor the Church Triumphant (the saints, canonized and uncanonized) in heaven.
Ave Maria!
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
To Jesus through Mary!
Here I am, Lord; I come to do Your will.
Please give us the grace to respond with joy!
