In this episode, I expand on my previous discussion of Model 1 and Model 2 by introducing Model 3—a Framework for Self-Direction. While Model 1 focuses on reducing pain through pattern recognition, and Model 2 builds capacity and strength to get back into life, Model 3 addresses what happens when clients are mostly out of pain but encounter new emotional or environmental barriers as they pursue higher-level goals.
Using real-world client examples and my own personal experience with strength training and recovery, I break down the key obstacles that arise when returning to group classes or demanding activities. Rather than forcing through movement or ignoring internal cues, I share the six fundamental questions that form Model 3. These questions help both movement teachers and individuals cultivate body autonomy, navigate social pressures, and refine their movement choices for sustainable, lifelong progress.
