The 'X' Zone archives credit him with helping create the television game show Classic Concentration and with directing, acting in, or producing more than 100 summer-stock productions. In the mid-1980s, Piper became involved with Share International, the organization and magazine associated with British artist and esoteric writer Benjamin Creme. Piper eventually became known as a “Modern Miracles Reporter,” investigating and publicizing phenomena that believers interpreted as spiritual signs—including unusual crosses of light appearing in windows and reports involving religious statues and other unexplained manifestations. Contemporary reporting confirms that Piper travelled to investigate some of these “crosses of light,” although supernatural explanations for such phenomena remain matters of belief rather than established scientific fact. One of Piper's most remarkable claims concerned a mysterious “star” reported in skies around the world. Share International announced in December 2008 that a bright star-like object would appear as a sign heralding the emergence of Maitreya, whom followers describe as a coming “World Teacher.” Videos subsequently appeared online showing unusual luminous objects. Piper believed that what witnesses were observing was not an astronomical star at all, but four enormous spacecraft positioned around the Earth, serving as a modern counterpart to the biblical Star of Bethlehem and announcing Maitreya's public emergence. These claims have not been scientifically established and are presented as Piper's and Share International's spiritual interpretation of the reported sightings.
