Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Bruce Goldwell, author, Vietnam veteran, entrepreneur, and inspirational writer whose remarkable personal story took him from nearly a decade of homelessness to becoming a published author with ambitions of bringing his fantasy creations to the motion-picture screen. Goldwell has said that health and personal difficulties left him homeless for roughly ten years, including time spent on the streets of Los Angeles. During those years, he regularly visited bookstores and studied self-help material, searching for ideas that might help him rebuild his life. Goldwell eventually began writing, publishing his first book, The Door to Super Achievement, in 2005. He followed it with The Power of Choice and then turned his attention toward young readers with the fantasy adventure series Dragon Keepers. The first installment, Honor of the Tome, follows a young Merlin as he becomes a Dragon Keeper and assumes responsibility for Dracon, the newborn son of the powerful dragon Merlineld. Goldwell incorporated personal-development and success principles into his fantasy stories, hoping young readers could learn lessons that might help them avoid some of the hardships he experienced. At the time of Goldwell's original appearance on The 'X' Zone, his story was promoted under the extraordinary headline “Former Homeless Man Now Has a Movie Deal.” Early promotional material for Dragon Keepers stated that Goldwell had connected with a co-producer and was pursuing a film adaptation. Later updates show that the road to Hollywood proved considerably longer than initially anticipated: by 2009 he was still working to connect with Hollywood insiders, and in 2023 he was seeking partners to help bring Dragon Keepers and Starfighters Defending Earth to the screen. The X Zone guest archive preserves the original “movie deal” description of his appearance.
