521. Ray Hawthorne

Join Ray and I as we talk about “HIM”, the movie I had JUST finished minutes before we did this chat. We talk what we think the movie was getting at with its symbolism and kinda nerding out about Jordan Peele and the worlds that he’s created over his movies, and if they’re possibly a shared multiverse?

From there  Ray opens up about the success of his solo career, how when we last talked it was sort of a last ditch attempt at a career in making music. The challenges of releasing a song a week for a year.  Dealing with the success of his solo material, while also learning to deal with comments that he was either an industry plant or wasn’t even a real human being but AI. 

We talk about how the success of those songs allowed Ray to really dive deeper into himself to get to some of his most personal songs yet, including one that he wrote for his dad that he hasn’t shown him yet. We also dive into how hard it is for each of us to know how much of ourselves to put into our creative outlets due to backlash from strangers.
