Fear and anxiety have become a pan-cultural phenomenon — and something I wrestled with for many years and genuinely no longer do. In this episode, the two realizations that got me there. First: I am not God. So much fear comes from the misplaced belief that we can control reality — and worry feels like doing something. There is profound peace in doing everything you reasonably can, then gently accepting what you cannot control, especially other people's choices. Second, the harder one: fear is a fuel — and it fuels everything you don't want. Once I understood that staying in fear empowers the very thing that wants to wreck my life, I simply decided to stop. As the old saying attributed to the saints goes: work as if everything depends on you, pray as if everything depends on God.
