Based on James chapter 4, we are reminded neither to worry nor boast about the future, but to fix our eyes on the coming kingdom of Christ.

David Hathaway:

I have battled cancer twice. People often ask, “Why did that happen to you?” Yet on both occasions, God used that affliction to transform my life.

Similarly, when I found myself imprisoned as an evangelist and Bible smuggler, my immediate, natural reaction was to ask, “Why, Lord? Why am I here?” Yet without that season in prison, I would not have the ministry I carry today.

Looking back across life’s tragedies – the illnesses, the imprisonment, and the trials – God worked through every one of them to accomplish His divine purposes. When we observe the turmoil across the world today, we must see it in light of eternity: it is preparing the way for the return of Christ and the establishment of His kingdom. The central message of Jesus was not merely personal salvation, but the arrival of the kingdom of God.

Rest assured that in everything unfolding around us, God remains sovereign. Out of all this upheaval, He will establish His kingdom on the earth. Jesus did not consume Himself with contemporary political struggles. Though He lived in a land subjugated first by Greece and then by Rome, His focus was never on earthly empires. His gaze was fixed entirely on His coming kingdom. That remains His enduring message to us: the kingdom of God.
