Do you want the key to promotion? In today’s episode, based on James chapter 4, we are instructed: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
David Hathaway:
The Scripture makes this crystal clear. The Lord promises that when we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him.
James urges us: “Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
Too often, people try to promote and elevate themselves. There is a familiar proverb: “Pride goes before a fall.” When people are consumed with pride and lift themselves up, things inevitably collapse; the higher they climb in self-exaltation, the harder they fall. But for believers, the path is entirely the opposite: humble yourselves under God's hand, and He will lift you up.
Moving to verse 11, James adds: “Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it.” When you sit in judgment over others, you abandon obedience to the law and set yourself up as its judge. Yet verse 12 reminds us: “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge.” Ultimately, each of us must stand before God’s judgment seat when His Son returns.
